Regal Cinemas hosts Oscar film fest with benefits for loyalty users

Regal Entertainment is providing movie lovers with a way to see all the Best Picture nominees for this year’s Oscars back in theaters for a ten-day festival with exclusive bonuses for Regal loyalty mobile application users.

The 10-day event will showcase all of the films nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. The move is a step on Regal’s part to continue enticing customers to its mobile loyalty program through exclusive benefits and offers.

“Regal is proud to offer the opportunity to see all of the movies nominated for Best Picture in time for the Academy Awards on Sunday, February 26th. 2016 was an incredible year for movies with some of the most critically acclaimed and audience pleasing movies ever,” said Steve Bunnell, Chief Content Officer at Regal Entertainment Group. “We are also excited to offer members of the Crown Club, our industry-leading loyalty program, an opportunity for a once in a lifetime experience to see the biggest stars from the silverscreen walk the red carpet at the 90th Oscars®.”

Oscar race
The Oscars are a major event for movie lovers and this year’s ceremony will be no different.

Already the race is heating up with major frontrunners Manchester By The Sea, Moonlight and La La Land all heading up many critics’ list of shoo-ins.

The nominees have yet to be announced, but the voting polls are now closed, meaning that the chosen films are being tabulated now. On January 24th, the full list will be made known.

For many movie lovers, watching every film nominated for a major Oscar is a point of pride, but as the films are spread out over the course of the year, it can be difficult to catch them all on their intended screen size.

To remedy this, Regal is hosting a 10-day film festival where customers can see all of the Best Picture nominees in theater once more.

Tickets can be bought individually, or, for $35, customers can buy a pass to see all of them.

While these passes are available to everyone, Regal is offering exlcusive bonus points and savings to members of its mobile loyalty program, Crown Club.

Best Picture
Regal Cinemas is using this special event to promote use of its loyalty app and to encourage consumers to come in to the theater for reasons other than just the latest releases.

This is a strategy that Regal has employed before and one that seems to be successful given that they are returning to that well again.

For example, Regal recently unveiled a year-long classic film festival that promised similar rewards and exclusive offers for its mobile users (see story).

Regal is hoping that Oscar buzz as well as fear of missing out will encourage movie lovers to come to theater in droves to catch up on the year’s most acclaimed films on the big screen before the big event.

“Previously movie enthusiasts that wanted to see every Best Picture nominee may have had an option to sit through a marathon viewing to witness the best Hollywood has to offer,” said Ken Thewes, Chief Marketing Officer at Regal Entertainment Group. “Now, we are excited to deliver a Festival Pass that is a great value and gives the moviegoer the viewing power over which Best Picture film they want to see and when they want to see it.”
